Testcovery, the winners of the first Start Up Weekend held in Mindanao last November 9 will the first and only representative from Mindanao for the online Global Start Up Battle 2012. Testcovery, a crowdsourced testing and app development platform, will be competing against 132 start ups from all over the world. The judges will choose the winner from the top 15 start ups with the most votes on their pitches.

Testcovery was developed by a team of mobile developers,RollyRulete (from the Project Noah mobile app, Team-Lead Developer (Web/mobile)), IñakiNarciso(iOS/Android Developer, Pitcher), Raymond Delfin(Web Developer, Server Admin), and Tim Duhaylungsod(iOS Developer), to answer a problem they often encounter: how to test their app on a variety of devices quickly, efficiently, and cheaply.

“Our inspiration was our fellow developers out there who wanted to build awesome and amazing apps to share with the world but don’t have the resources to buy test devices,” explained Tim Duhaylungsod. With this platform, other developers and users can give immediate feedback which can speed up the development and testing process from weeks to a matter of days.

This group of friends joined the Start Up Weekend without any intention of winning that weekend, much less qualifying for the Global Start Up Battle. “We did not expect that we would win on that event,“ says Tim. “We just joined for fun, learning, freebies and food!”

If they win this year’s Global Start Up Battle, they’ll be getting more than freebies and free food. The winners of the Global Start Up Battle will be receiving VIP tickets to the Global Entrepreneurship Congress 2012 in Rio de Jainero, VIP tickets to visit the GooglePlex in San Francisco, $5,000 PR launch package by Geben Communications, $5,000 worth of design services from Btrax, $5,000 of legal services from Cooley LLP, and $20,000 worth of Google Cloud Services.

The Testcovery team now has working prototypes available both for the web and iOS platforms that they plan to continue developing and eventually release this platform to the market. Their website is still under construction (http://testcovery.co) but fans can start voting for them starting November 21 to 27 on Facebook. — TJD, GMA News
