Suspect in UPLB student's killing now in police custody

November 23, 2012 12:29pm
A young man tagged in last Monday’s brutal robbery-killing of a University of the Philippines Los Baños student is now in police custody after his family turned him in on Friday.

Police said Benigno Cayetano will undergo a drug test to see if he was high when he killed UPLB agriculture student Victoria Reyes, radio dzBB reported Friday noon.

Cayetano was placed under tight security, the report said.

The report said Cayetano was turned in by his grandfather, a former village chairman in Tanauan, Batangas, who negotiated the terms of turning Cayetano over to the police.

While Cayetano insisted he was innocent, Laguna police said they have witnesses who linked him to the killing of Reyes.

Earlier, Biñan City police said at least two witnesses had given a description of the suspect in the killing of Reyes, who was found dead in her house Monday noon with stab wounds in different parts of her body.

Police suspect robbery was the motive behind the killing after noting many valuables, including a laptop and a camera, were missing.

Reyes was the latest victim of a string of heinous crimes done on young girls, after University of Santo Tomas alumna Cyrish Magalang in Cavite and model-TV talent Julie Ann Rodelas. — KBK, GMA News
