November 25, 2012 2:42pm
(Updated 8:52 a.m., Nov. 26) - Malacañang is hoping the fatal stabbing of an American in Makati City early Saturday will not result in a US advisory warning against travel to the Philippines.

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said Philippine police have already resolved the issue when they arrested the four suspects and charged them.

“Huwag naman sana. Pero... pinapaigting na ng NCRPO ang police visibility, gumagalaw na rin ang PNP sa paghahabol ng loose firearms," she said on government-run dzRB radio, when asked about the possibility of a travel advisory due to the incident.

She cited information from the Metro Manila police the four suspects were to be charged on inquest on Sunday.

Valte also said the police have been implementing crime prevention and preparations for the upcoming election.

Four men allegedly stabbed dead an American after an argument outside the gate of Bel-Air Village in Makati City early Saturday.

A report on “24 Oras” said the victim was an American.

The “24 Oras” report said the American was walking as he entered the village's gate when a vehicle with four men inside arrived and stopped at the entrance.

It said the four then got off the van and stabbed the American, who was able to walk 20 meters before he fell on the ground. The victim was rushed to a hospital but he died there.

A report in The Philippine Star identified the victim as George Anico, who got into an argument with Crispec dela Paz; Juan Abastillas; Galicano Datu III; and Ospic Caburay, 27.

It said Anico allegedly tapped the suspects’ sport-utility vehicle, causing the suspects to come out of the car and confront him. Police caught up with the fleeing suspects. — LBG/KG, GMA News
