Willie Revillame's group, 31 others barred in 2013 polls

December 3, 2012 3:36pm
(Updated 5:09 p.m.) A party-list group affiliated with game show host Willie Revillame has been disqualified by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) after it did not file a motion for reconsideration for an earlier decision by a poll body division.

The commission en banc decided to uphold the ruling of first and second divisions which axed 1-WIL SERVE and 31 other groups.

"Hindi naman nag-file ng MR, so the decision of the division became final," Brillantes told reporters on Monday.

1-WIL SERVE is foundation turned party-list group of Revillame, who currently hosts Wiltime Bigtime in TV 5 and previously Willing Willie in ABS-CBN. The group claims to be a multi-sectoral party-list representing the poor, elderly, women and professionals of Region II, III, IV and the National Capital Region.

Aside from 1-WIL SERVE, the other affected groups are:

Commissioner Rene Sarmiento, whose division disqualified 1-WIL SERVE, said the group represents the foundation and not the sectors it claims to represent.

"A careful perusal of the pieces of evidence submitted by WIL reveal that what it actually intends to represent is the WILFOUNDATION and not the urban poor, elderly and professionals," the division resolution said, a copy of which was obtained by GMA News Online.

While the foundation did conduct outreach programs to the marginal sectors, it does not  "sufficiently demonstrate its knowledge about the needs of each and every sector of the urban poor, elderly, women and professionals, and thus that it is capable of representing them."

Sarmiento also said its nominees do not belong to the sectors it claims to represent.

The group has nominated Ferdinand A. Domingo, Leonard S. De Vera, Lemuel M. Santos and Peter Francis G. Zagala, all lawyers; and Christopher G. Reyno, a human resource officer, as its representatives.

"The Commission is unconvinced that the former will be able to contribute to the formulation and enactment of appropriate legislation because they have no concrete knowledge regarding the actual needs, concerns and sentiments of the said sectors," their resolution said.
