Check out the nominees for WikiPinoy of the Year

This year's crop of twelve nominees are an eclectic bunch, to say the least. They include two politicians, a boxer, a librarian, an “Idol,” and funnymen, among others.

 

Comedians are of special note, since last year's WikiPinoy of the Year award went to comedian and YouTube star Mikey Bustos.

 

Groups included in this year's nominees are anti-discrimination advocates Proud to be LGBT Campaign Network, and the online satirical comic strip “Agaw Trip” Komiks, created by Zeus Agustin and Merck Maguddayao.

 

Posthumous nominees are the former secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government Jesse Robredo, and eminent comedian Dolphy.

 

Also among the nominees are strong-willed senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, “American Idol” favorite Jessica Sanchez, free-reading advocate and library keeper Hernando Guanlao, boxer Brian Villoria, friend zone expert and “May Tamang Balita” host Ramon Bautista, award-winning director Brillante Mendoza, actor Richard Yap, and 13-year-old Peace Prize awardee Kesz Valdez.

 

The award has been in existence for the past five years, it honors movers-and-shakers for the cause of open education—people who have made great contributions in providing the public with free and accessible information. The nominees were selected by the editorial board and staff of the Philippine online encyclopedia WikiPilipinas.org, while the winner is decided by WikiPilipinas readers and volunteers through a poll.
