Squawk! The Angry Birds will be catapulting to the silver screen in 2016 as a 3D computer-generated feature film, a tech site reported Wednesday night.

Rovio Entertainment disclosed this as it released 30 new levels for the game to mark the third anniversary of the mega-hit franchise, Mashable said.

"With ('Despicable Me' producer John Cohen's) hands-on producer background and (former Marvel Studios chairman David Maisel's) expertise in establishing and running his own successful studio, these two are the dream team for making a movie outside the studio system," Rovio's CEO Mikael Hed said.

"Both professionals have the ideal skills and vision to achieve incredible things,” he added.

Mashable said the film is to show in mid-2016 with Cohen taking over production and Maisel - a senior adviser to Rovio - as executive producer.

It added no details about the plot have been revealed so far, though Rovio "plans to produce and finance the movie to avoid losing 'creative control' at the hands of a movie studio."

Cohen had also had a hand in movies like Hop, Ice Age, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who, Robots and Ice Age: The Meltdown.

He lauded Rovio for "trailblazing terrific new ways for Angry Birds fans to interact with these characters." — TJD, GMA News
