NBA: Pacers extend the contract of head coach Frank Vogel
The Indiana Pacers announced Monday (Tuesday, PHL time) that the team has extended the contract of head coach Frank Vogel.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"This is a good deal for Frank and the franchise," Pacers President of Basketball Operations Donnie Walsh said, in a statement released by the team. "Frank has done a great job turning our team around since he became coach and deserves the chance to continue the work he and his staff have started."
Vogel added in the statement, “I’m honored that Donnie, Kevin [General Manager Pritchard] and Mr. Simon [owner Herb Simon] have such belief and faith in me to be their coach in the foreseeable future. We’ve established a great connection with our community the last two years, both on and off the court and I look forward to continuing that."
Prior to becoming head coach for the Pacers, Vogel had been a scout for the Los Angeles Lakers and Washington Wizards, before moving on to become an assistant coach for the Philadelphia 76ers and the Boston Celtics.
Vogel then became part of Jim O'Brien's coaching staff for the Pacers and took over the head coaching position on an interim basis in the 2010-11 season, after O'Brien was fired. The team removed the interim tag from his position in the offseason of 2011.
As head coach of the Pacers, Vogel has compiled a 62-38 record, with the Pacers going 42-24 in the last lockout-shortened season. The team beat the Orlando Magic 4-1 in the first round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs, and then lost to the eventual champions Miami Heat 2-4 in the semifinals. - AMD, GMA News
