Unidentified armed men abducted a 52-year-old man in Zamboanga City last weekend, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on Monday.

In an article posted Monday evening on its website, the Coast Guard said it is conducting search operations for Edgar Fabella.

The Coast Guard said Fabella was abducted near his house along the highway of Barangay Maasin near the shoreline of Cawit, Zamboanga City last January 11.

The initial investigation showed that the abductors forced him to board a motor banca with yellow, blue and white stripes.

"The motor banca then sped towards Pilas Island, Basilan while the two other suspects, wearing black and orange shirts, served as look-outs who sped away onboard a black motorcycle towards the downtown area of Zamboanga City," the Coast Guard said.

For now, the Coast Guard detachment in Recodo alerted all vessels anchored at the vicinity seawaters of Varadero De Cawit, Recodo and Caldera Point through radio.

It also coordinated and informed the Philippine Navy about the incident for appropriate action. - VVP, GMA News
