A Filipina maid and a Pakistani gardener in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) faced a trial court this week over accusations that they molested three Emirati children. The two were accused of forcing the three children, all under age seven, to perform pornographic or obscene activities and threatening to torture them with matchsticks. The Filipina was described as 35 years old, while the Pakistani was 39 years old. Both were charged with sexually abusing the three Emirati children - two sisters and their brother - on different occasions in September last year. The prosecutors said the children's mother discovered the alleged abused of her children by “coincidence,” according to a report of the news site Gulf News. The prosecutors said the six-year-old boy told his mother that the Filipina threatened to burn him with matchsticks if he refused to sleep with his sisters, aged seven and one. The boy and his seven-year-old sister also alleged that the two suspects forced them to grope each other and perform indecent and inappropriate acts. The report said the prison wardens did not bring the Filipina from her detention facility to the Dubai Court of First Instance, where she was scheduled to be tried on Tuesday. Chief Prosecutor Ahmad Mohammad Al Hammadi, of the Bur Dubai Prosecution, asked for the implementation of the toughest punishment applicable. The presiding judge adjourned the hearing to February 10 until a lawyer is appointed to defend the suspects. - VVP, GMA News
