With only one prospective bidder qualifying, the Department of Transportation and Communications is considering holding a rebid for the consultancy contract for the civil works on the LRT-2 Masinag Extension. "Unfortunately, only one of the companies which purchased eligibility documents qualified, because the four other bidders failed to renew their 2013 mayor’s permits at the time of submission of eligibility documents," the department said in a statement on Tuesday. The DOTC added that the law allows the government to declare a bid a failure if only one entry is shortlisted, and hold a rebid. In December, the department solicited bids for consultancy services worth P350 million for the LRT extension project, and set January 7 as the deadline for submission and opening of eligibility documents. The LRT2 Masinag Extension Project will lengthen the 13.8-kilometer railway by another 4.2 kilometers eastward from Santolan Station on Marcos Highway in Pasig City. Two new stations will be constructed from Santolan to the line's new terminal at the intersection of Marcos and Sumulong Highways in Masinag, Cainta, Rizal. — BM, GMA News
