A court in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) this week upheld the five-year prison term of a Pakistani driver found guilty of raping a Filipina in the Al Qouz area. The Dubai Appeal Court threw out the appeal of the Pakistani, 28, and instead upheld his conviction and five-year imprisonment, according to a report on the news site Gulf News. The judge Eisa Mohammad also ordered the Pakistani deported after he completes his jail term. The defendant was found to have molested the Filipina by confining her in a company’s premises and filming her naked. The defendant insisted he was not guilty and claimed they had consensual sex, and that the Filipina agreed to have sex with for money.  The appellate judgment remains subject to appeal within 13 days. Court records showed the Filipina approached the Pakistani after her friend recommended that she borrow money from him to pay for her son’s college tuition in the Philippines. The Filipina said had asked a friend to lend her money but the friend said he would take her to the defendant instead. The victim recalled that the defendant ordered her friend to leave the room “before he jumped on me and raped me.” She said she wasn't able to fight off the attack because she was afraid. - VVP, GMA News
