Halal food products have untapped export potential: PhilExport
Halal foods—or foods that Muslims may eat under Islamic dietary guidelines—have a lot of potential for export, the Philippine Exporters’ Confederation (PhilExport) said over the weekend. “Halal’s increasing global popularity stems from strict cultural and religious adherence to its quality standards that make it synonymous to health and hygiene. Thus, Halal is a major component of the International Food Exhibition Philippines [IFEX],” said Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM) executive director Rosvi C. Gaetos. IFEX will be held from May 16 to 19. Gaetos added that a special participation rate for the IFEX will be offered to Halal-certified companies and Halal-compliant restaurants and hotels under the Philippine Export Development Plan’s Halal Development Plan. — BM, GMA News
