Maynilad Water Services, Inc. has increased the allocation in its budget for its water loss prevention program, the company said in a statement. Its Non-Revenue Water (NRW) recovery program, which includes meter and pressure management, active leakage control, primary line assessment, selective pipe replacement, and District Metered Areas (DMAs) management, now has a budget of P2.134 billion for 2013 compared to P1.4 billion in 2012. According to the company, over 600 million liters of water per day (MLD) have been saved since Maynilad began its NRW program in 2008. The volume is enough to supply water to 600,000 households, it said. Since 2008, said the company, 150,000 leaks have been repaired—more than 45,000 in 2012 alone—and 940 kilometers of pipes have been replaced. Maynilad likewise recently completed dividing the West Zone into 1,271 smaller, hydraulically separate areas or DMAs, which will help it detect and monitor leaks and low water pressure. Maynilad is the concessionaire for the National Capital Region's West Zone, which covers parts of Manila, Quezon City and Makati as well as Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon. It also provides water to Cavite City, Bacoor, Imus, Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario in the province of Cavite. — BM, GMA News
