Show dogs of all shapes, colors, and sizes from other countries have started making their way to Manila to take part in the Philippine Circuit Dog Show 2013 at the SM Megamall Megatrade Hall on Feb. 21-24.

Since Monday, over 20 dogs have arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, said Animal Quarantine officer-in-charge Dr. Cristina Betito.

Among the dogs now in Manila is Sand Dune, a three-year-old Yorkshire terrier owned by Thai national Nanta Tansacha. Sand Dune won a dog show in Thailand in 2012.

Also in town is a three-year-old Siberian Husky owned by another Thai national, Oranuj Kanjanachusak.

A three-year-old 11-kilo pug owned by Malaysian Lee Kok Hoong also arrived in time for the dog event.

Each dog owner was charged P270 for quarantine fees, Betito said.

Some 400 dogs are expected to participate in the dog show organized by the Philippine Canine Club, Inc., said Betito.

Foreign experts from Belgium, Germany, Italy, South Africa, Russia, Bulgaria, Colombia, Cyprus, Serbia, Chile, Pakistan and Taiwan will judge the upcoming dog show.

Aside from the contest, the four-day event will also have a pet fashion show, dog sports, performances, and forums on the latest in canine healthcare. —KG, GMA News
