Sony is working on a glowing tablet-like device that could be an accessory for its newly-launched PlayStation 4 console, a UK news site reported this week.

The electronics giant filed for a patent in Europe for the device dubbed the EyePad, which could be a controller for the PlayStation 4, the UK's The Register reported.

In its report, the Register said Sony described the EyePad as "typically a panel, tablet or slab-like device comprising one or more illuminated regions, two stereoscopic video cameras and optionally a touch sensitive surface".

The Register said the EyePad is designed to be a motion-tracking controller, using sensors to track its position, orientation and any nearby objects.

It added the accessory's glowing edges would help the PlayStation pick out the controller's outline using the cameras.

But it said the device is not meant as a jab at Apple for its iPad tablet. Instead, Sony's naming was in line with its other PlayStation peripherals like the EyeToy and the PlayStation Eye.

It added the device could be a part of Sony's announcement on Wednesday about the "future of PlayStation." — TJD, GMA News
