February 22, 2013 5:21am
Chicco Xerxes de Leon Pangan of the University of Santo Tomas topped the February 2013 Physician Licensure Examination of the Professional Regulation Commission and the Board of Medicine.

Pangan was the lone UST alumnus among the topnotchers as the Catholic university garnered a passing rate of 91.30 percent as 21 of its 23 examinees fulfilled their ambitions to become doctors.

The Our Lady of Fatima University (Valenzuela campus) had six topnotchers, but only 77 of its 180 examinees hurdled the exam, resulting in a passing rate of 42.78 percent.

In contrast, Far Eastern University fielded 90 examinees and 74 of them passed—for a success rate of 82.22 percent.

Most of the 38 medical schools on the PRC list had less than 10 examinees.

The University of the East had only 19 takers and 17 passed. The University of the Philippines, which has its medical school in its Manila campus, had just four examinees and all of them passed. West Visayas State University likewise earned a 100 percent passing rate as all its seven examinees came through.

The Cebu Institute of Medicine also had a 100 percent passing rate as all its 15 examinees passed. The Cebu Doctors University garnered a passing rate of 91.67 percent as 11 of its 12 examinees hurdled the exam.

De La Salle University's Health Sciences Institute saw 16 of its 23 examinees pass for a success rate of 69.57 percent while Ateneo de Zamboanga did better as 24 of its 31 examinees passed.
