An updated YouTube app has been found to contain code suggesting that the video-sharing site is coming up with pay-to-view channels, an Android enthusiast site reported.

This may jibe with a Wall Street Journal report suggesting Google is talking with record labels to start its own Spotify-like music streaming service, AndroidPolice said.

"Now, some code found in the most recent YouTube app update basically confirms the service is on its way," it said.

It cited code strings that may display the messages "You can only subscribe (or unsubscribe) to this paid channel on your computer."

"While it's still very unclear exactly what this means, it does confirm that the previous rumors are legit. At this point, any content we could suggest that these pay-to-view channels may include would be wild speculation, so we'll just let you imagine the possibilities on your own," it said.

A separate article on tech site Mashable noted that rumors had been circulating that Google was considering establishing paid channels on YouTube.

It said the "stray code" in the app update "all but confirms that rumor."  — TJD, GMA News
