UAE court orders Nepalese jailed for sexually harassing Pinay
A United Arab Emirates (UAE) court this week sentenced a Nepalese cook to three months in jail after finding him guilty of sexually harassing a Filipina colleague. The Filipina, 22, had accused the Nepalese cook, 33, of repeatedly asking her to be his girlfriend despite her rejections, according to a report of the news site Gulf News. The Filipina also accused the cook of groping her more than once. The court also ordered the cook deported once he has served his sentence, the report said. However, the primary verdict is subject to appeal within 15 days. In her testimony, the Filipina restaurant worker said the Nepalese ignored her repeated rejections of his advances. She recalled that he once came to the reception area where she worked. Then he allegedly groped her suddenly. "I pushed him away and asked him to stop,” she said. The Nepalese denied the claim, saying he never did that. However, the Gulf News report cited prosecution records that showed the Nepalese admitted to groping the woman. The Filipina said she once scolded the Nepalese cook for groping her. "He promised that it was the last time, but he continued harassing me. Another day he came out from the kitchen and put a paper in my pocket; he then kept his hand inside and groped my posterior until I slapped his arm strongly," she said in the Gulf News report. - VVP, GMA News
