With just one week to go before Holy Week starts, prices of fish shot up in some markets in Metro Manila.

The report said bangus priced previously at about P105 per kilo are now sold for P125 per kilo, while tilapia that sold for P70 per kilo now sold at P80 per kilo.

Price hikes were also noted for tulingan from P100 to P120 per kilo and galunggong from P75 to P80 per kilo, it added.

In contrast, prices of pork, chicken and vegetables remained stable.

Fish are a popular food item during the Lenten season, especially as Holy Week nears, since Christians traditionally abstain from meat at this time.  — KBK, GMA News
