A problem with a power line forced the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) to suspend its trips between Taft Avenue in Pasay City and Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City for about two hours Tuesday afternoon. MRT general manager Al Vitangcol III said part of a Meralco power line got in contact with an electric overhead cable of the MRT at the Taft Avenue station. "Problema natin ang Meralco power line. Hindi sa MRT ang problema ... Sa Taft Avenue station bumagsak ang isang linya at dumikit sa ating overhead system," Vitangcol said in an interview on dzBB radio. The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) said on its Twitter account that Meralco crew immediately proceeded to the area. An updated tweet indicated that as of 4:58 p.m., "MRT operations are back to normal." The DOTC earlier said commuters between Magallanes and Taft Avenue stations "were asked to evacuate the train as a precautionary measure." The MRT links North Avenue in Quezon City to Taft Avenue in Pasay City via Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA). — KBK, GMA News
