ABL: San Mig shames short-handed Saigon for 9th straight win

The San Miguel Beermen dealt the Saigon Heat a 101-49 beating on Wednesday, to extend their winning streak to nine straight games, establishing a new record in the Asean Basketball League.
 
In the fourth period, the Beermen led by as much as 58 points, facing a short-handed Saigon squad that only fielded six players. 
 
The Heat kept it close in the first period, going down by only six in the first quarter, 23-17, but the Beermen went on to pour in 21 points in the second, while the visitors only managed to score 10. The halftime score thus stood at 44-27.
 
San Miguel continued to abuse the Heat's line-up in the third, peppering the stats sheet with 34 big points while limiting Saigon to 10 yet again to enter the payoff period with a 77-37 advantage.
 
Coach Leo Austria's boys didn't let up in the fourth, with Mike Burtscher, Christian Luanzon, and Justin Williams leading the late charge for 23 more points to Saigon's 12.
 
Asi Taulava led San Miguel with 18 points in 17 minutes, while Chris Banchero had 12. Val Acuña, Justin Williams and Brian Williams had 11 each. San Miguel also had 62 big points in the paint to Saigon's 14.
 
Former Ateneo Blue Eagle Oping Sumalinog led Saigon with 16 points, while Hoang Ly had 12. No other Heat was in double figures, as Dior Lowhorn played limited minutes to produce only seven points. - RAF, GMA News
