April 21, 2013 7:11am
A two-year-old girl died while 20 houses were razed in a predawn fire that hit a residential area in Palanan village in Makati City Sunday.

The body of the victim, initially identified as Nilziy Joy Buyco, was found pinned under debris in her house, radio dzBB's Manny Vargas reported.

Nilziy Joy had earlier been reported as missing. Her relatives became emotional upon learning of her death as they thought she had already been evacuated from the burning house.

An initial investigation showed the fire started at the house of Vicente Buyco at 2:10 a.m. at the corner of Arellano and Zobel Roxas Streets.

The fire reached the fifth alarm and spread quickly as the houses were made of light materials.

Firefighters managed to place the fire under control at 2:45 a.m.

Arson investigators are verifying information the fire stemmed from an overheating exhaust fan. — LBG, GMA News
