GMA News TV talents make it to Cannes Film Festival
GMA News TV is proud to announce that creatives who work on its original series Bayan Ko, its love anthology Wagas and documentary show Front Row made it to this year’s Cannes Film Festival with their personal film projects.
Two long form Philippine films made it to the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard category this year -- Death March and Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan. Both of these were written by Bayan Ko’s writer Rodolfo Vera. Death March was directed by Adolfo Alix Jr., who also directs Bayan Ko and episodes of Wagas for GMA News TV.
Bayan Ko star, Angeli Bayani, who played Mayor Joseph Santiago's wife Nena, stars in two films that will show in the Cannes Film Festival. Bayani top-bills Lav Diaz's "Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan" and Singapore's entry "Ilo Ilo" by Anthony Chen, which was selected as part of Cannes' Director's Fortnight this year.
Three short films from the Philippines also made it to the Cannes Short Film Corner. One of them, "Mga Engkantong Laog sa Mahabang Dapithapon," is directed by one of Front Row’s Executive Producers Derick Cabrido.
Cannes is the biggest annual international film festival in the world. For the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, the President of the Jury will be American filmmaker Steven Spielberg.
