IP Converge Data Services, Inc. on Monday launched the first online payment facility for cloud services in the country at cloud.com.ph. “No other provider offers locally hosted Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) accessible on the fly via online payment that could be charged on a usage-based subscription basis,” said IP-Converge president Reynaldo R. Huergas. A cloud server is a highly scalable virtual server that allows the user to increase or decrease its server, memory, or storage capacity whenever required. IP-Converge charges a subscriber company only for the capacity it uses. The customer can also quickly upgrade its memory or storage capacity if needed, and the change will be reflected in the bill at the end of the month. This will be beneficial for small enterprises with small budgets, as they will only pay for the capacity they use, said IP-Converge marketing director Niño Valmonte. This also makes cloud services—and the facility to pay for it online—ideal for casual users and students, said Huergas. “It’s important to make these resources available to students as they are the next generation of IT gurus,” he said. “Now, through the Cloud, they can have computing power and capacity for applications development to see their ideas come to life without having to invest in physical IT equipment.” — BM, GMA News
