Shoulder surgery was needed for Donaire following Rigondeaux loss - ESPN
"Filipino Flash" Nonito Donaire underwent shoulder surgery on his right shoulder, and will need another for his left shoulder following recovery from his first operation, in the wake of his loss to Guillermo Rigondeaux, ESPN's Dan Rafael reported.
Donaire needed surgery to repair a torn labrum and a torn rotator cuff. He also got a bone spur removed during the procedure, which took place last Friday in California.
"I've always felt the pain [in my shoulder] for quite a while," Donaire told Rafael. "The right shoulder was bothering me bad. I went to the doctor in January and the doctor was freaking me out saying he thought it was a full tear.
"But I wanted to fight. In the back of my head I thought it could be a career-ender, but I wanted to fight [against Rigondeaux] and all during training camp I didn't use my right. I thought I would be able to do good with setting everything up with the left. Going into a fight with an elite fighter not at 100 percent is a big mistake and that is something I learned. You can't take anyone lightly."

Donaire went on to lose to the Cuban Rigondeaux via unanimous decision, 114-113, 115-112, 116-111, last April 13 (April 14, PHL time), at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. As a result, the Filipino dropped his WBO Super Bantamweight title.
The 30-year-old Donaire also revealed to Rafael that he'd need surgery on his left shoulder as well, saying, "Every time I move at a different angle, the tendon is rubbing against the bone, so once my right shoulder heals I will go back and get the left one done, and I will come back stronger." - AMD, GMA News
