Microsoft on Wednesday (Manila time) rolled out an updated security patch to replace an earlier patch that caused Windows machines to crash, a tech site reported.
PC World said Microsoft revised MS13-036 after the initial version rolled out last April 9 forced many machines to reboot.
"Microsoft never clearly described the causes of the BSODs (Blue Screens of Death) and endless reboots, saying at the time, 'We’ve determined that the update, when paired with certain third-party software, can cause system errors.' (Microsoft spokesman Dustin) Childs today also declined to get into specifics, instead saying only that 'some customers were having issues,'” it said.
Childs said the new update, KB 2840149, addresses a "Moderate" security issue like the patch it replaced, but no longer causes rebooting.
Microsoft was forced to pull out the questionable update after receiving reports it was causing repeated reboots.
But PC World noted customers and experts blamed a combination of the security update and “G-Buster,” a browser security plug-in for online banking, and Kaspersky Lab security software. — TJD, GMA News
