Golf: Superal, del Rosario out to topple holder Mariano in PHL Junior Amateur Open Championship
Princess Superal and Pauline del Rosario are aiming for victory and will look to unseat defending champion Pamela Mariano in the girls’ competition of the Philippine Junior Amateur Open Championship at the Sherwood Hills Golf Club in Trece Martirez, Cavite.
Superal of the ICTSI team is coming off a win at the Faldo Series Philippines Championship a week ago at the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club, where del Rosario finished runner-up at the extremely long Faldo course.
Mariano, one of the prized finds of the Frankie Minoza Foundation based in Bukidnon, surprised everyone in 2012 when she topped this event. This time, it’s she's out to make it back-to-back wins.
Rainstar Roque, also a part of the Minoza Foundation, will suit up as well, alongside Abby Arevalo, Sofia Chabon, Daniella Uy, and Bianca Pagdanganan.
In men’s play, little big man Rupert Zaragosa has been installed a favorite after last year’s victory Gio Gandionco begged out because of school commitments in the United States.
Zaragosa, a former junior world titlist, faces tough company with a handful of entries are coming from Singapore, Malaysia, Korea and Japan. - AMD, GMA News
