For the first time in the history of the King of the Road race, Adidas is adding a division solely for students, called the School Championship, to encourage young people to keep a healthy and active lifestyle.

Students 25-years-old and below can opt to run in the 10k Relay for students, with pairs of one male and one female, each aiming to complete half of the distance.

Winners in this event will claim individual prizes for themselves and for their schools.

“adidas has always been an advocate of health and wellness through sports. The King of the Road is a testament to that fact,” said Jason Gervasio, Brand Communications and Sports Marketing Manager of adidas Philippines, in a press statement released to media on Monday.

“The new School Championship category aims not only to promote fitness, but also to inspire teamwork and pride as students are given the chance to be ambassadors of their respective campuses.”

Entry fee for the student category is pegged at P800. Runners in this category must present a valid student ID during registration.

Also part of the event is the 10k race which is open to the general public and the 16.8k competition with Open and Closed categories.

The Closed category is for Filipino runners, while the Open category is for all participants of all nationalities.

Winners in the male and female divisions of the Closed categories will be crowned Philippines' King and Queen of the Road and will wear the country's tri-colors during the KOTR Southeast Asian Championship in Malaysia.

Entry fee for those opting to run in the 16.8k race is P1,300, while the regular 10k race's cash fee is set at P1,100. - AMD, GMA News
