It was a room full of expectations. And with the buzz from the media about the widely known Dubai-based Filipino designer Michael Cinco, his show last Wednesday night at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City for Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2013 was well attended and awaited.

And Cinco surely delivered.

His "The Impalpable Dream of Russia" collection of white, black and blush hues and intricate details may be the grandest and the most enticing show this season.

"This is the most... I love this collection so much. I put my heart, all my heart into it because this is my 20th anniversary as a fashion designer," said Cinco.

Cinco's Grand Opera House

There's a mesh of modernism and romanticism in Cinco's show.

You see tailored blazers mixed with over-the-top tulle gowns and heavy details of ceramics, Swarovski crystals, and carefully hand-stitched sequins.

At the same time Cinco's romantic side shows in the minimalism of the silhouette and dreamy patterns.

"I dream an impalpable dream," Cinco said, referring to his one-of-a-kind collection.

The show was very operatic. It's like watching four different collections all wrapped up in one—but in a good way, of course. You just have to let yourself go for the ride, the Michael Cinco fashion show ride.

The designer also knows his way to the spectator's mind. He knows how to play with your imagination and how to use this sensation of drama in unveiling his fabulous 33-piece collection.

"Because people are expecting a lot from me, it's so much pressure," he confessed.

Cinco, the tease

Aside from showing his range in terms of technicalities and wide imagination, Cinco also knows how to tease the crowd—you don't really know what you're getting unless you see it on stage because there's always drama.

"It seems like you're watching an opera," he said.

Aside from the clothes and the music, the lighting is pure perfection—it comes on at the right time and place to delight the crowd.

"It's amazing. It was all Ariel Lozada, the director. He wanted to get away from all the background and everything," Cinco said.

Moreover, everyone who was there was just speechless and proud to witness a great Filipino talent who is widely known around the world, showcasing and marking a name in the big world of fashion.

"I feel elated. I feel very proud," he said. —KG, GMA News
