Michele Gumabao does her courtside duties for the Shakey's V-League Finals. KC Cruz
After winning three straight championships with the De La Salle Lady Spikers, Michele Gumabao has walked away from the hardcourt towards the lights and camera on the sidelines. Last season's UAAP Volleyball MVP is now working as a segment host for GMA News TV's All Sports, airing Sundays from 9:30 to 11:15am. Gumabao was on deck covering the Shakey's V-League, which also airs on the same channel. "It's fun. I love working first with these people. They give me my lines; they help me with it coz this is my first hosting gig," said Gumabao, after deciding not to suit up for her fifth and final year with the girls in green. Gumabao also offered thoughts on the V-League championship series between the defending champions Ateneo Lady Eagles and the National University Lady Bulldogs: "Ateneo has good guest players, and of course, their setter Jem Ferrer is still there," Gumabao said. Gumabao added, though, that NU's line-up remains strong: "Looking at NU, I see more opportunities for them because of their setter. Their setter is very good as well as their libero." NU's setter, guest player Rubie de Leon, won Best Setter last Thursday, while teammate Jen Reyes bagged the Best Receiver award. "Also, iba yung tandem nung dalawang six-footer nila. That's a big advantage for them. Height talaga for NU is the key to their success right now," added Gumabao, talking about 6-2 V-League MVP Dindin Santiago and her 6-4 sister Jaja. Game two of the finals will be aired live on GMA News TV, starting at 12:45pm, after game two the battle for third between the UST Tigresses and the Adamson Lady Falcons. - AMD, GMA News
