What are the top things to consider when looking for a job?

According to Rich Lakis of job search site Career Path, happiness, fitting in, and a sense of well-being at work are some of the most important factors. Lakis is a human Resources professional who has been practicing for 25 years.

Finding a job which gives favorable results in these factors gives a high chance of job satisfaction which translates to better production.

Lakis advices you to study things thoroughly and check out every factor before jumping the gun and applying.

Meanwhile, the information site Mashable compiled a list of the top things you should consider in finding work.

(1) Management relations

The type of relationship with your manager is one of the most important things to consider. Do you want someone who leaves you to your work? Or someone who's always there to check on you?

This will dictate your work flow and ultimately your production and not taking this factor into account may spell big trouble later on.

To have a good idea, ask about a prospective job's management and compare it with your current one.

(2) Company culture

One thing you really have to adjust to is company culture since it's always constant. But it changes depending on the people employed in the company.

Do you agree with planners or do you identify yourself with procrastinators?

What's important is that if you don't feel like you're going to fit in, maybe you should reconsider applying in that company.

(3) Your personality

Are you more of an introvert or an extrovert? Maybe even a mix of both?

You should find work which fits your personality so you could excel in your career.

Imagine working in a library when you're actually someone who likes to converse a lot with people. What about if you're tasked to speak publicly and you're having the jitters since you're an introvert?

(4) Work-life balance

Are you okay with commuting to work? Do you prefer flexitime or fixed working hours? Is working far away from home favorable for you and your family?

These work – life factors are important to consider since these things affect your dealings not only in work but also with your family and relatives.

Not thinking this part out can add a significant amount of stress later on when you're actually on the job.

(5) Stability

Though this is more of optional, choosing a company which is stable is the smart thing to do.

After all, you're going to give that company your time. It might make you feel robbed of your youth if that same company suddenly shuts down after you've given everything. - Andrei Medina, VVP, GMA News
