The Department of Labor and Employment reminded employers to show "good corporate citizenship" and observe proper pay rules for Wednesday, Independence Day.

DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said June 12, when Filipinos mark their 115th Independence Day, is considered a regular holiday.

"Proper observance of the applicable pay rules for workers every day—especially on Independence Day—is good corporate citizenship. It contributes to nation-building," she said.

Baldoz noted President Benigno Aquino III, in Proclamation 459 dated last August 12, declared Independence Day as a regular holiday.

For Wednesday, the following pay rules will apply:

- If the employee did not work on Wednesday, he or she shall be paid 100 percent of his or her salary for that day.

- If the employee worked on Wednesday, he or she shall be paid 200 percent of his/her regular salary for that day for the first eight hours. For work done in excess of eight hours (overtime work), the employee shall be paid an additional 30 percent of his or her hourly rate.

- If Wednesday is the employee's rest day and he or she still reported For work, he or she shall be paid an additional 30 percent of his or her daily rate of 200 percent.

- If the employee worked more than eight hours on his or her rest day on Wednesday, he or she shall be paid an additional 30 percent of his or her hourly rate on the day.

Baldoz urged private sector employers to "observe voluntary compliance with labor standards, particularly with the payment of correct wages/salaries of employees who will report for work on Independence Day.” — BM, GMA News
