Three suspected members of a robbery gang in Cavite province were killed in an encounter with police Tuesday night, a police official said Wednesday.

According to provincial police director Senior Superintendent Alexander Rafael, the suspects, whom he did not identify, were killed when they engaged policemen who were responding to a tip regarding an ongoing robbery incident in a shootout.

Rafael said the police got wind of the robbery in Barangay Mangas II in Alfonso town through a tip from a concerned citizen.

According to Rafael, the suspects were able to sneak into the residence of 36-year-old businessman Nelson Casambros, after which they hogtied Casambros and his family at gunpoint and divested them of cash, jewelry and gadgets.

He said when responding policemen arrived in the area, the suspects chose to shoot it out with them.

Recovered from the scene of the incident were two .38 caliber revolvers, a hand grenade, a rolled packing tape, and the stolen items.

The case was still under investigation as of posting time, while the bodies of the suspects were taken to Mabini Funeral Homes for autopsy. — Marc Jayson Cayabyab/KBK, GMA News
