Father's Day treats, from prostate probes to Maserati rides

Like most celebrations, Father's Day is an occasion for indulgence. Prime meat, fine wine, and even a chocolate cigar can make the most ascetic dads feel special. A hospital even offers a promo rate on its male check-ups, including that vital inspection of the prostate.

Father's Day treats await at hotels and restaurants in the city. At Sofitel, special demo events await dads, including the chance to take a spin in a Maserati Granturismo. At Spiral's Sunday brunch, executive chef Eric Costille's spread includes prime meats at the Churrasco atelier, from Cote de Boeuf brushed with sea salt and black peppercorn, slow cooked US prime beef leg and leg of lamb. Seafood lovers can indulge in salmon and fish caviar, fresh Brittany creuse oysters, and lobsters at the L’écailler.

There is also L’épicerie's library of the best cheese and charcuterie from France, Italy, Germany and Switzerland. To treat Dad to a ribeye, head to any of the Raintree Restaurants: Museum Café + Kabila, Chelsea, Mr. Jones, MoMo, Stella + Rocket Room. The Roasted Bone Marrow topped with Anchovy Gremolata and served with Cream Spinach and Potato Gratin, Rosemary Beef Jus as sauce is P1,650++ inclusive of a glass of red wine. Apart from the feast, all dads will be given sponsored giveaways from Ellesse, and Sledgers.

At Mandarin Oriental, Manila, dads can indulge in their favorite food at two of the hotel's restaurants. At Paseo Uno, the Father's Day menu includes gourmet delicacies such as US prime rib. The international buffet is P1,650+ for lunch and P 1,790+ for dinner. At Tin Hau, Executive Chinese Chef Hann Furn Chen has prepared three set menus for Father's Day. The set menus start at P1,580 per person. Dads who dine at Paseo Uno or Tin Hau on Father's Day will be given a complimentary chocolate cigar.

The hotel also offers a room package for dads who want to unwind with the whole family. The package offers a complimentary second room or second night, and includes international buffet breakfast at Paseo Uno for two persons. If Dad needs a weekend escape, head for Tagaytay. For Father's Day, Discovery Country Suites offers an a la carte selection of specialty steaks, including the 200-gram Hanger Steak with Three Peppercorn Sauce, the 200-gram Ribeye steak with Tarragon Bearnaise, the Angus Beef “Goulash” and the Wagyu Beef Back Ribs. Meanwhile, dads can enjoy the “Shores Super Dad’s Steaks N Frites” at Discovery Shores Boracay. The steak feast is available on June 16, and includes Dad's choice of Certified USDA Prime Angus Beef. For an extra special celebration, there is Beach Bliss, an all-inclusive three-day, two night escape including daily breakfast buffet and one set dinner at Sands Restaurant. Guests who stay from June 1 to 16 will receive a voucher for an Angus Steak dinner at 22 Prime on June 15 and 16. The package includes breakfast buffet for two guests at Restaurant 5, a welcome drink at the Serendipity Lounge, and a 10-minute welcome neck massage for Dad. Rates start at P6,200++ for a One Bedroom Suite. At Terra Wellness Spa, walk in guests may avail of any 60-minute massage package to receive a complimentary spa treatment for Dad.

Of course, Father's Day isn't just about feasts. Special treats in the city include a car show, High Mass, an art exhibit, and even a hospital package.

At Resorts World Manila, there will be a High Mass concelebrated by Bishop Leopoldo S. Tumulak D.D. and Fr. Peter Coching. The High Mass is at 11 a.m., and a Special Mass will also be held at 4 p.m. at The Plaza.

At Galerie Joaquin Podium, the "Respect and Affection: Celebrating Father's Day" group exhibition runs from June 10 to 17. Master painter Dominic Rubio, renowned sculptors Ramon Orlina and Michael Cacnio, and artists Glenn Cagandahan, Jovan Benito, Aljo Pingol, Aldrino Abes and Bernard Vista pay tribute to all fathers through their art. "Whether it is a figure of a father and his children riding home together on a carabao, or a sculpture of a child flying a kite on his father’s shoulders, or even a painting of a father and son flying a plane together, fatherhood as depicted through visual art is not only touching, but emotionally enduring," Galerie Joaquin said in a press release.

Meanwhile, Manila Doctors Hospital is offering a Father's Day Package, with that essential probe of the prostate.
