Golf: Now pros, Ikeda and Ardina to face off at Canlubang
When the P500,000 second leg of the ICTSI Ladies Philippine Golf Tour resumes on Tuesday, at the Canlubang Golf Club in Laguna the rivalry between Chihiro Ikeda and Dottie Ardina is expected to resurface.
Ikeda and Ardina, members of the ICTSI team, went head-to-head several times during their amateur days. Both have already turned pro before the start of the new season in February.
Their first meeting as professionals at The Country Club did not materialize as Ikeda skipped the maiden tournament because of a conflict of her schedule with the Japanese LPGA Step Up Tour.
However, Ikeda insists that theirs is a friendly rivalry as they are good friends off the course.
“We are fierce competitors only on the golf course. Off it, we are best pals,” said Ikeda, who actually hits it longer off the tees than Ardina.
Ardina countered, “She [Chihiro] may hit it farther but I don’t just give up. She’ll have a hard time this week.”
Others tipped to bid for the crown are Jayvie Agojo, Lovelyn Guioguio, Sarah Ababa and Anya Tanpinco along with Apple Fudolin, Lucy Landicho, Lina de Guzman and Reb Bareng.
Also joining are former Philippine Open champion Heidi Chua, Eva Miñoza, Sylvia Torres, Tracy Que, and amateurs Ilas, Harmie Constantino, Yuka Sasu, Pauline del Rosario and Sofia Chabon of ICTSI. - AMD, GMA News
