Golf: Angelo Que hopes for repeat win in Malaysia
Petaling Jaya, Malaysia — Angelo Que of the Philippines returns to the scene of one of his three victories on the Asian Tour as he competes at the $400,000 Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters, beginning Thursday at the Seri Selangor Golf Club.
Que’s wonderful run for his third title on Asia’s top-tier tour happened in 2010 when he nipped Chris Rodgers of England in a wire-to-wire sudden-death playoff, also at this week’s same host venue.
“I just love playing in Malaysia. I feel so at home here. Hopefully, my game will be as excited and good as I am now,” said Que, who got booted out from the $312,000 Queen’s Cup tournament a week ago at Samui, Thailand.
His success three years ago was a product of rigid regimen that included a no-pork diet that worked perfectly as he got fit. He has maintained that figure up to this day.
“To keep up with the younger generation, I have to be healthy. That’s the only to beat those guys. I hope to win this one again,” he also said.
Que tees off at 1:35 pm on number one with Korea’s Mo Joong-kyung and American Kieran Pratt.
Among the top contenders out to topple Que are Thaworn Wiratchant, the Thai defending champion, Siddikur of Bangladesh, Anirban Lahiri of India, Jonathan Moore of the USA, Scott Hend of Australia, Danny Chia and Shaaban Hussin of Malaysia.
Completing the Philippine contingent here are Jay Bayron, Antonio Lascuna, Elmer Salvador, Mars Pucay, and Miguel Tabuena. - AMD, GMA News
