Comely Crimean prosecutor becomes online anime sensation

March 28, 2014 11:54am
Natalia Poklonskaya, the new prosecutor of the Crimean republic, would have been just another obscure bureaucrat, except that she's drop-dead gorgeous, a quality that Japanese artists have duly and virally noted.

Japanese oddity site RocketNews24 was among the first to see how her potential global appeal.

Gaming and hobby website featured anime depictions of the prosecutor from Pixiv, a Japanese art-sharing site, barely a week after her appointment.  Users from Japan, China, and South Korea have drawn their own versions of Poklonskaya, ranging from cutesy to provocative:

Described as having a "beautiful face even without sleep" by users on Japanese site Hamusoku, the 33-year-old mother of a nine-year-old girl, has also been praised for having a face that could "save the world," according to China's Global Times.

On a separate Rocketnews24 report, Poklonsaya said that she doesn't watch anime but "couldn't be happier" about her cartoons if only because her nine-year-old daughter enjoys them.

"My daughter looks at these pictures every day. She happily tells me, 'Mom, you’re becoming an anime heroine in Japan,' which of course is very exciting for her. As for myself, though, I’m too busy to really pay much attention to the drawings," she was quoted as saying. — TJD/HS, GMA News
