Quakes hit Mindanao, Luzon; no casualty reported

Earthquakes hit East Mindanao and Central Luzon before dawn and at noon Tuesday, but neither was powerful enough to cause casualties or damage to property, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said Tuesday evening. Phivolcs said the first quake occurred at 12:56 a.m., 31 kms northwest of Butuan City in Agusan del Norte. It said the quake was tectonic in origin and measured at magnitude 4.1. The quake was felt at Intensity V in Butuan City, and Intensity IV in Surigao City, but Phivolcs said no damage or aftershock was expected. A second quake occurred at 12:14 p.m. in Central Luzon, and was traced 9 km southeast of Palayan City in Nueva Ecija. Phivolcs said the quake was tectonic in origin and measured at magnitude 3.1. It was felt at Intensity III in Palayan City but Phivolcs said no damage or aftershock was likely. - GMANews.TV
