Abalos orders continuation of verification of signatures
Commission on Elections Chairman Benjamin Abalos on Thursday ordered the continued verification of signatures gathered in the Sigaw ng Bayan-led people’s initiative to amend the 1987 Constitution, GMA-7’s 24 Oras reported.
Abalos explained that the authentication of signatures is part of the Constitutional duty of the commission.
In the verification process, the Comelec will make sure that the signatures that Sigaw ng Bayan movement gathered through people’s initiative are signatures of registered voters.
The Comelec observed a discrepancy in the number of registered voters in 1st district of Makati.
The list of voters of the Akbay Pinoy group showed 100 voters more compared with Comelec’s list. The verification of signatures in the 2nd district was put on hold until an application for verification is filed. -GMANews.TV
