30,000 jobs on offer at union fair

April 29, 2006 8:27pm
Some 30,000 jobs both here and abroad will be up for grabs on the Labor Day, the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines revealed Saturday.

TUCP spokesman Alex Aguilar said that instead of the usual rally in May 1, the group will host a job fair at the Quezon City Hall from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. A one-stop shop will also be set up in the area to help those processing their working papers.

“This year, we want to help the jobless," he said at a weekly forum at Sulo Hotel in Quezon City.

The TUCP is expected to meet President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and leaders of Congress to present a 10-point labor agenda that seeks a P70 across-the-board wage hike, tax exemptions for minimum wage workers, the creation of a workers' bank, medical insurance for fishermen and farmers, and the speedy resolution of labor cases. - GMANews.TV
