MMDA chairman favors national ID system
Proponents of the national ID system on Monday found an ally in Bayani Fernando, chairman of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), who said that an efficient identification system would benefit the poor.
Fernando said once the national ID system is implemented, the delivery of basic assistance and services to the people would be faster, simpler, and more effective as it would utilize modern technologies, instead of the old system of papers and logbooks, which is prone to loss, damage, and manipulation.
“What is more important here is that our bigger population of poor Filipinos stand to gain the bigger stake and share in the benefits of our country’s growth through an efficient identification system," Fernando said.
Fernando said the National Bureau of Investigation, and the Commission on Elections would be the most competent agencies to handle the review and implementation of the proposed system. He said the agencies have the most extensive files, and use state-of-the-art system in identifying every Filipino. - GMANews.TV
