Bossi admits return to former parish ‘may not be easy’

While he is eager to return to his old parish in Mindanao five months after his abduction, freed Italian priest Giancarlo Bossi admits he will have a hard time getting back to work.

The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said Bossi, who arrived from Hong Kong Monday night, was "happy to be back" but was reluctant to face the media.

"I am very happy to be back," Bossi, a Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (PIME) missionary, was quoted in the CBCP news site.

Bossi said he will await instructions from his superior, Fr. Gianni Sandalo, regarding his next assignment, although he hopes to go back to his parish in Payao in Zamboanga Sibugay.

Bossi, however, admitted that returning to his former parish "may not be that easy."

Last June 10, armed men claiming to be Abu Sayyaf members abducted Bossi in Payao. He was released after 39 days in captivity.

Church and government authorities denied paying ransom in exchange for Bossi's release.

The missionary went to Italy where he met with Pope Benedict XVI, which he said was "something good to remember."

Bossi arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport about 8 p.m. Monday aboard Philippine Airlines flight 307. - GMANews.TV
