MANILA, Philippines - Former president Joseph Estrada and some opposition senators went to the Iglesia Filipina Independiente cathedral in Manila to pay their respects to the late Anakpawis Rep. Crispin Beltran Friday night.

Q-11 television's "News on Q" reported that one of the senators, Ana Consuelo "Jamby" Madrigal, became emotional as she recalled working with Beltran.

Estrada, who arrived at the IFI cathedral Friday night, described Beltran as a "bayani ng maralita at kapospalad (hero of the poor and oppressed)."

The former president also shook hands with militant lawmakers Satur Ocampo, Teodoro CasiƱo and Liza Maza, who - along with Beltran - joined efforts to oust him in 2001.

Estrada's son Jose "Jinggoy" Estrada went to the IFI to pay his respects to Beltran Thursday night.

Aside from Madrigal, senators who went to the IFI Friday night included Senate president Manuel Villar Jr. and Loren Legarda.

Beltran, 75, died Tuesday after suffering a bad fall during an accident in his house in Bulacan. His remains will be brought to Bicol this weekend. - GMANews.TV
