Nograles dared: Act on Beltran bills for wages, reform
MANILA, Philippines - Supporters of the late Anakpawis Rep. Crispin Beltran challenged House Speaker Prospero Nograles Jr on Wednesday to act on the reform bills Beltran fought for when he was alive.
Militant priest Jose Dizon, who led a Mass at necrological rites for Beltran at the Batasan Pambansa, said acting on Beltran's advocacies is the greatest "last respect" Nograles can show.
Dizon said that before Beltran died from an accident in his house in Bulacan last week, he left behind bills seeking a P125 wage hike for workers and a P3,000 hike for government workers.
On the other hand, he said Beltran was to push for the removal of an expanded value-added tax (EVAT) on electricity on the day he died.
Nograles was likewise challenged to pursue a bill Beltran filed for "genuine agrarian reform."
The Philippine National Police band played at the mass and at the funeral march.
Earlier, Dizoon asked forgiveness for the Bicol priests and bishops who refused to say Mass for Beltran when his remains were brought there last weekend. - GMANews.TV
