Beltran laid to rest after rites, march
MANILA, Philippines - Anakpawis Rep. Crispin 'Ka Bel' Beltran has been laid to rest Wednesday evening, a television report said.
His burial came after a march of thousands of militant activists wearing red shirt with huge red banners.
The report said that the activists marched from Quezon City to Angat, Bulacan - not to protest – but to give their last respects to the fallen labor leader.
Earlier on Wednesday, a necrological service was held at the session hall of the House of Representatives for 75-year-old Beltran.
From the Hall of Congress, Beltran’s casket was loaded in a mini truck on its final destination to the Angel of Meadow Memorial Park in Angat.
GMA news' 24 Oras said that the trees along the route which Beltran's supporters took bore red ribbons.
The red ribbon was supposedly to remind the marchers that Beltran’s crusade for the common workers was still alive.
Upon reaching the Angel of Meadows Memorial park in Angat town, militant lawmakers acted as pallbearers and bore Beltran’s casket to its final resting place.
“Kung iniiyakan man natin ngayon na si Ka Bel hindi yun nangangahulugan na ihihinto (laban) kundi tuloy ang laban," said Beltran’s daughter Ofelia Beltran Balleta.
