GMA Radio Operations, the business group that manages GMA Network’s radio stations, entered into a license agreement with Music Video Performance, Inc. (MVP), a private organization that serves as the collecting agent for performers and recording companies.

The agreement is held in compliance with the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines which stipulates that authorization and payment of royalties to the owner or producer, and artists or talents is required prior to the use of their sound recordings.

The licensing agreement is effective until 2015 and includes all GMA AM and FM radio stations nationwide, as well as its affiliate RGMA Network, Inc.

Present during the contract signing held on August 28 in Quezon City were GMA Consultant for Radio Operations Mike C. Enriquez, MVP President Chito Ilacad, VIVA/Vicor President and COO Tony Ocampo and RGMA Vice President for Administration and Finance Eugene Ramos.

VIVA/Vicor President Tony Ocampo expressed his gratitude to GMA for spearheading this endeavor. “With this, yung karapatan ng artist at saka nung nag-produce na record company ay mabibigyan naman ng karampatang royalty.”

GMA Consultant for Radio Operations Mike Enriquez affirmed GMA’s long-term commitment to the recognition of music rights.

“Isa itong pagkilala ng GMA, sa pamamagitan ng makatarungan at patas na paraan, sa mga karapatan ng mga kasapi sa paghubog ng musika na inihahatid ng mga istasyon natin sa mga nakikinig, nanunood, sa mga tumatangkilik sa musika. Sa pamamaraang ito, hindi binabaliwala ang kanilang resources, talino at husay,” he said.

GMA Network earlier signed a licensing agreement with MVP for its TV operations in April 2014.
