Richard Poon, one of the most sought-after singers in the Philippines, guested on Sikat sa Barangay hosted by Mama Belle this afternoon.

Find out which song in his latest album Richard Poon: The crooner sings Bacharach is his favorite and get a lowdown on his take on rampant music piracy in the Philippines.

Which song from your new album is your most favorite?

“Ako naman, personally, I like all naman, tsaka medyo matagal ‘yung arrangements kasi metikuloso ako. Kasi nakikialam ako doon sa over-all arrangement. So pag dumating sa akin ‘yung song na-arranged ng isang arranger, I’d still hear something na kulang or I’ll add guitars. Papalitan ko, tsa-chop-in ko, masyadong mahaba. So I think all the songs, ganoon ako gumawa ng album, ayoko ng may natatapon.”

How do you deal with bashers?

“Ako kasi bashers are … well you can dislike them pero there’s no such thing as a successful person na walang nag-bash sa ‘yo. Lahat naman talaga ng successful people or if you’re going up mayroon talagang magsasalita ng hindi maganda. So for me, it’s natural.”

What do you think about the state of music piracy in the Philippines?

“Challenging ngayon for any artist, especially here sa Philippines. Dati kapag nag-hit song ka sa radio, it will translate into sales. Ngayon, hindi na. Ngayon, even if you have the number one song, minsan ang album mo hindi gumagalaw because the young people, if you’re in their shoes, why would I buy an album. I can rip it off the net.”

Your message to all your supporters and fans

“Una, of course, sobrang salamat sa mga bumili ng album ko. At saka, they continue to buy until today kaya maganda ‘yung sales so far ng CDs.”
