Five young boys named Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson were the absolute crowd favorite. Although the group only finished third in the seventh edition of X-Factor, they cemented their place in the world stage as one of the most promising talents of the new generation.
American Idol judge Simon Cowell signed the boys under his own record label Syco Record. In late 2011, One Direction released their first single ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ which skyrocketed into a global hit.
Legions of teen girls in every country was hooked to the 1D effect. In fact, the boys' popularity is even compared to the legendary ‘Beatles.'
Their song ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ is a huge success that since it was released, it has reached over 613 million views in the video sharing site YouTube.
The song became part of their debut album ‘Up All Night.’ Their debut album also raked in some serious money with more than 12 million album sales recorded.
Moreover, 1D holds the distinction of the only band or group in history with all four albums: Up All Night, Take Me Home, Midnight Memories, and Four debuting at the number one spot.
They also received several recognitions from Brit Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards and Teen Choice Awards.
And this month, Pinoy Directioners are eagerly anticipating the guys two-day mega concert at the SM Mall of Asia Concert grounds in Pasay. The Philippine leg of their One Direction: On The Road Again tour will be happening tonight and tomorrow, March 22.
