“A lot of my blood, sweat and tears for the past five years, six years. A lot of things I have gone through is written here sa album ko,” this was how singer and songwriter Kris Lawrence described his recently released album under GMA Records.

“A lot of my blood, sweat and tears for the past five years, six years. A lot of things I have gone through is written here sa album ko,” this was how singer and songwriter Kris Lawrence described his recently released album under GMA Records.

Aptly titled “Spread the Love,” Kris said that this album was his gift to music patrons. “Singing, writing and playing music were the gifts that God gave me so I believe that’s how we spread our love to the world, by sharing our gifts,” the Prince of RnB shared.

Boasting with all-original songs, Kris himself wrote eight out of the 12 songs included in the album, mainly to prove that OPM (Original Pilipino Music) is very much alive. “The whole controversy that OPM is dead, [that] the Filipino music doesn't have identity anymore kasi puro revival yung nilalabas natin, so a lot of the singers, we all got together and wanted to make a new movement, for the new OPM,” Kris said.

Kris wasn't afraid to let out his vulnerable side as he revealed the stories behind the songs he wrote.

“My favorite… Try Again. It’s about making mistakes in your life and a lot of times you get discouraged because of what people tell you, you get discouraged because you failed… so forget all about that, step on the plane and try again,” Kris advised.

“’Di na matatanggap is a song for Kat nung nag-break kami. She broke up with me in 2010,” referring to girlfriend for five years, Kapuso actress Katrina Halili.

Sabihin mo naman is another song dedicated to Katrina while they were apart. “After 4 or 5 months, na miss ko s’ya. Parang gusto ko s’yang suyuin. But I didn't want to go to her personally because I had pride also. The message of the song was ‘Sabihin mo naman na ako ang mahal mo.’ Choose me,” confessed the romantic singer/songwriter.

Make Me Whole is a song dedicated to Kris and Katrina’s baby girl, Katrence. Kris’ daughter evidently is the inspiration to break Kris’ four-year hiatus from recording. “Our baby is an inspiration not just to my album but to my whole life… Every day I wake up and even though sobrang puyat na puyat ako. She wakes me, pinapalo nya yung mukha ko, gusto nyang maglaro, it makes life so much more fulfilling,” the singer said.

Being the romantic that he is, Kris didn’t deny nor confirmed any wedding plans with Katrina but hinted, “Gusto kong mag flower girl si Katy so antayin ko munang makapag-lakad s’ya.”
