Taclobanon ‘Not Informed’ lead vocalist Junno was already based in Manila when Yolanda wiped out his hometown.

While the super typhoon hit, he didn’t have any news on his family. More than the absence of cellular reception, he didn’t have contact with them because he and his dad weren’t on speaking terms. His dad, who wanted him to become a lawyer, was against his decision to pursue music.

“Lumayas kasi ako nun eh. ‘Di na kami nag-uusap ng dad ko,” he shared.

Before Yolanda, Junno was pretty sure that he could take matters into his own hands. He didn’t need the help of his loved ones.

“That time, feeling ko kaya ko na 'yung mundo eh. Matanda na ‘ko, may music video [na 'yung banda ko], malapit na kong grumaduate, parang ang dami kong kaibigan, [ang] ganda ng girlfriend ko. Parang lahat na [nasa akin] and then biglang nag-Yolanda,” he recounted.

While he was home alone in his apartment in the unaffected Metro Manila, his thoughts wandered to Eastern Visayas, wondering whether or not his family would make it though.

“Mag-isa lang ako na parang dinidibdib ko lang lahat. Wala akong masandalan kasi wala akong pamilya eh. Hindi ko alam kung buhay pa sila,” he said.

That heavy feeling dragged on for almost a month until he finally received a call.

“Yung mom ko tumawag [saying] everything was gone [but they were spared. I went home a few months after tapos] dun lang kami nag-usap ng tatay ko ulit. Tapos hindi na kami [nag-dramahan] or whatever. As in okay na lahat. All is forgiven. Dun ko na-realize na [iba talaga ang love ng] family,” he declared.

That moment only fueled Junno’s desire to further excel in his chosen career. Several months after his world shook, the band that he has formed has signed with GMA Records and the world now has access to their music. He may have gone through a rough patch but because of his resilience and courage, the realization of his dream is closer at hand.

“Cliché pero life is short so do what you can while you’re still here,” he concluded
